Program Overview

Venture into the untouched wilderness of Amami Oshima and Okinawa, where birdwatchers can encounter the elusive Okinawa Rail, a flightless wonder, and the critically endangered Pryer’s Woodpecker. These islands are not only a haven for rare birds like the Ryukyu Robin and Amami Woodcock but also home to fascinating wildlife, such as the Amami Rabbit and Amami's Ishikawa Frog. Guided by experienced birdwatching experts fluent in English, this 5-day tour offers an intimate exploration of Japan’s unique ecosystems. Naha Airport, Kin village, Kunigami village

◇6:30 Meet at Haneda Airport Domestic Terminal.

◇ 7:35 – 10:25 Haneda Airport – Naha Airport(Okinawa)
Use of a private car.
◇ 11:00 – 12:30 Transfer, lunch on the way.
◇ 12:30 – 14:30 Birdwatching in the paddy fields of Kin Town.
◇ 14:30 – 15:30 Transfer 
◇ 15:30 – 17:00 Birdwatching at Hiji-ohtaki Falls.
◇ 18:00  Move to Ada Garden Hotel Okinawa.

Kunigami Village, Higashi Village, Hijiohtaki Falls, Kunigami Village

◇ 18:00 Move to Ada Garden Hotel Okinawa..

◇ 14:00 – 15:00 Fly to Amami Oshima Island.
◇ 15:00 - 16:00 Transfer to Amami Nature Observation Forest.
◇ 16:00 – 17:00 Birdwatching at the Amami Nature Observation Forest  Park.
◇ 18:00 Move to Hotel New Amami

◇ 14:30 - 16:30 Fly from Amami Oshima Island to Haneda Airport.
◇ 20:00 Dismissal at Haneda Airport

Instructor and Guide

GuideKoji Tagi

Studied Wildlife Management in Australia and had worked in nature conservation field over 20 years. Over 40 years birding experience in more than 25 countries in the world. Over 5 years experiences as a birding guide for both Japanese and non-Japanese. Very knowledgeable about Japanese birds and speaks English fluently. Contributed lots to various field guide books.
He started birdwatching at the age of 14, when his father took him out to a pond in Hyogo Prefecture and he saw a flock of ducks, which attracted him to their beauty. He became fascinated by birdwatching overseas. To date, he has observed more than 2,500 bird species in about 25 countries.
He dreams establishing sustainable birding tourism in Japan for both nature conservation and local economy.

Cancellation fees

If the tour does not reach the minimum number of participants, or if public transportation is canceled due to natural disasters such as typhoons, floods, or earthquakes, the tour will be canceled and the full tour fee will be refunded. In the event of cancellation due to other reasons, a cancellation fee will be charged as follows:

In cases where the Contract is canceled on or after the 7th day from the day immediately preceding the starting day of the Tour. 30% of the Tour Price
In cases where the Contract is canceled on the day immediately before the starting day of the Tour.  40% of the Tour Price
In cases where the Contract is canceled on the starting day of the Tour 50% of the Tour Price
In cases where the Contract is canceled after the start of the Tour or the traveler does not participate in the Tour without notice (no show).  100% of the Tour Price
